    Durante la guerra d ' indipendente negli Stati Uniti contra l ' Inghilterra (1775-1783 ), nell ' esercito di Giorgio Washington vigeva pene severe. Una di queste consisteva nel far passare il copevole fra due ale di soldati, ognuno dei quali li colpiva con cinghie e bastoni.
